On the night Ronja was born there was thunder over the mountains, and lightning struck and split the ancient Matt’s Fort in two. This is where Ronja grows up with Lovis, Matt and their 12 robbers. And she gradually discovers the world outside, which is full of wonders but also dangers. In the forest she meets grey dwarves, forest gnomes and wild harpies, and hears the underground voices sing and tempt her. And it is here, in Norrborgen, that Matt’s arch-enemy Borka, impudently and without asking, just moves in one night with this whole band of robbers. He brings his son Birk, who was also born on that stormy night…
Meet Ronja the robber’s daughter
In Matt’s Fort you can experience how the robbers live, hear them sing their songs and join in when they plan their robberies and plundering. Ronja and Birk meet every day in Matt’s Forest but they usually stay close to the fort, and if you keep your eyes open you’ll probably see them. Here, we have performances from 14 June of several scenes from the book Ronja the robber’s daughter, including when Ronja is born and the fort splits in two. Between the performances you can climb into and explore the fort, from the dungeons in the cellar to Noodle-Pete’s tower room and the perilous Hell’s Gorge. The daily programme and our app show the times when Ronja, Birk and the robbers are at home in the fort.
